- A joint venture of Mississauga, Ontario-based EllisDon and Edmonton, Alberta-based PCL, known as ED+PCL Healthcare Partners, has begun site prep work for what it says will be the biggest hospital in Canada.
- The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital in Ontario will house the province’s first dedicated women’s and children’s health center. Prep work includes the systematic demolition of three buildings, along with the removal and relocation of site utilities, realignment of site roads and the creation of new temporary construction roads to prepare the site’s footprint for the next construction phase.
- Once completed, the project will include advanced diagnostic imaging facilities, a new pharmacy and clinical laboratory as well as an expanded emergency department, according to the builder. It will fully replace the existing Mississauga Hospital.

PCL and EllisDon signed a development phase agreement in March 2023, according to a news release from PCL at the time. On the other end of the agreement are Trillium Health Partners, a hospital network based in Ontario, and Infrastructure Ontario, a provincial, infrastructure-focused government organization.
Currently, the building team and owners are delivering the hospital via a progressive public-private partnership approach, per the March 2023 release. Once the development phase is complete, PCL expects the team will enter a fixed-price agreement with Trillium to design, build, finance and maintain the project.
“In connection with the innovative Development Phase Agreement, Enabling Works encapsulates all the preparatory work required for the site to be ready for construction to take place,” said Andrew Anderson, senior vice president and Toronto area manager for EllisDon.
Vertical construction will begin in 2025, per local media outlet InSauga, but no firm completion date has been set. Officials told the outlet that finishing the project was about a decade out.
