Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 2020 novella, The Life of Chuck (found in his collection, If It Bleeds) finally has a release date. After its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year, Neon picked up the film for distribution and has confirmed that it will premiere in theaters on May 30, 2025.
The film, assuming it follows the structure of the novella, chronicles the life of a guy named Chuck in reverse, starting with his early death at age 39 and going backward from there, ending up in his haunted childhood home.
Tom Hiddleston stars in Flanagan’s adaptation as Chuck, along with Mark Hamill, who plays a character named Albie. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay are also in the production in unknown roles. And like other Flanagan projects, the cast is vast, with many familiar faces popping up from other series and movies the writer-director has led, including: David Dastmalchian, Heather Langenkamp, Matthew Lillard, Mia Sara, Harvey Guillén, Carl Lumbly, Kate Siegel, Annalise Basso, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Matt Biedel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Michael Trucco, Violet McGraw, Molly C. Quinn, Benjamin Pajak, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Antonio Raul Corbo, Q’Orianka Kilcher, and Taylor Gordon.
The film received solid reviews after its premiere, and the cast and Flanagan’s track record make The Life of Chuck near the top of the list of movies I’m looking forward to next year. Only six or so months to go until we can see it at our favorite cinema.
