David Arquette’s Dewey Is Somehow Coming Back for Scream 7

Another character is apparently coming back from the dead for Scream 7. Back in January, news broke that Scott Foley would be returning to the franchise after his character (who was Ghostface, no less) was killed off in Scream 3. We’ve also found out that Matthew Lillard, who was one of the two Ghostface killers in the first movie in the franchise, is also coming back, even though his character died after his head went through a television set.

But Foley and Lillard aren’t the only characters getting reincarnated. According to Variety, David Arquette will officially be in Scream 7 once again as Dewey. This news is surprising, given that Dewey was stabbed to death at the end of 2022’s Scream (pictured above, pre-stabbing), but here we are.

We don’t have any details on the plot of the upcoming film, but these returning characters hint at several possibilities. Will the movie follow the cinematic trend of there being a multiverse, giving us the Sliding Door version of the franchise we didn’t know we needed? Or could Scream 7 have one of the still-alive characters be able to see and speak to dead people, just like the young Haley Joel Osment could in The Sixth Sense? Or maybe the actors are playing versions of themselves in the in-universe movie franchise that developed around the slew of Ghostkiller murders? My brain is exhausted just thinking of all the options.

Whatever the story may be, Scream 7 will also see the return of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. It also stars newcomers Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, and Joel McHale.

We’ll sadly have to wait a year to see how things shake out, as the movie doesn’t premiere in theaters until February 27, 2026. icon-paragraph-end
