Did you ever play the popular board game Monopoly and think, “Gee, I sure hope Hollywood makes a motion picture centered on the capitalist conceit of buying up all the real estate in Atlantic City!”
If so, you’re in luck: The ongoing project to adapt the Hasbro board game (helmed by Lionsgate and Margot Robbie’s company LuckyChap) is moving forward and has found its writers.
According to Deadline, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein—the writers behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves—have been hired to pen the script.
“We knew LuckyChap would be a beacon for the best talent in town, and Lionsgate & Hasbro are thrilled that Goldstein & Daley have decided to join the fun,” said Erin Westerman, co-president, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement via Deadline. “We’ve been longtime admirers of their work—telling bold, original, intelligent stories for all audiences. They are the perfect architects for this franchise.”
Details on the plot for this movie about the board game Monopoly are non-existent, and while I can’t help but be skeptical, I was also skeptical of Barbie and was proved wrong. Prove me wrong once again, Goldstein and Daley! I hope you both pass Go and collect at least $200! And can you have Jarnathan (the Aarakocra we all love, pictured above in Honor Among Thieves) make a cameo?
No news yet on if/when the movie will go into production or even who will star in the film.
