David Oyelowo Creates The Drill Of The Future In Government Cheese

David Oyelowo (Star Wars: Rebels, Silo) is starring in a new retro-surrealist series from Apple TV+ called Government Cheese. We got a trailer for the show that gives off some strong Coen brothers/Wes Anderson vibes. In it, we meet Oyelowo’s character, someone who has done some illegal activities in his past but now reconnecting with his estranged family—while trying to sell a new drill that looks straight out of The Jetsons.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

Government Cheese is a surrealist family comedy set in 1969 San Fernando Valley that tells the story of the Chambers, a quirky family pursuing lofty and seemingly impossible dreams, beautifully unfettered by the realities of the world. When Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo) is released from prison, his long-awaited family reunion doesn’t go quite as he’d planned. During his absence, Hampton’s wife Astoria (Simone Missick) and sons Einstein (Evan Ellison) and Harrison (Di’Allo Winston) have formed an unconventional family unit, and Hampton’s return spins their world into chaos.

In addition to Oyelowo, Missick, Ellison, and Winston, the show stars Jean-Michel Richaud, London Garcia, Djilali Rez-Kallah, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, Louis Cancelmi, Julien Heron, Djilali Rez-Kallah, Louis Ferreira, Thomas Beaudoin, Kyle Mac, John Ortiz, and Adam Beach. It’s written and co-showrun by  Paul Hunter, who has directed dozens of music videos, and Aeysha Carr (The Carmichael Show).

The ten-episode series will premiere on Apple TV+ on April 16, 2025, with the first four episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through May 28, 2025.
