Fallout Trailer Gives Us More Walton Goggins, With and Without His Nose

While we got a teaser three months ago, we’ve finally gotten a Fallout trailer that gives us a real glimpse of the video game adaptation from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The video, which you can watch at the end of this post, gives us several scenes with Walton Goggins’ character, who we’ve been introduced to as The Ghoul.

The Ghoul, however, used to have a nose—two-hundred years ago before the world went through a nuclear apocalypse, with the radiation from said apocalypse giving him a long life, although a noseless one. It also looks like, in his full nose form, he was a spokesperson for the Vaults—underground communities where folks like Ella Purnell’s character, Lucy, have lived rule-laden and presumably less violent lives.

In Fallout, however, Lucy ventures outside of Vault 33 and runs into several unsavory characters, including a robot who wants to harvest her organs, a creepy dude named Wilzig played by Michael Emerson, and Goggins’ Ghoul.

The trailer also gives us the motivation for Aaron Moten’s character, Maximus, who becomes a mechanized killing machine in the Brotherhood because he wants to hurt the people who hurt him. Makes sense, though we also see that Maximus and Lucy team up at some point. Why and for what, however, remains to be seen.

The trailer confirms that the show captures the off-kilter, retro vibe of the game franchise it’s based on. We’ll see how this carries through when all episodes of Fallout premiere on Prime Video on April 11, 2024.
