King Charles III is feeling proud about his wife Queen Camilla’s latest project.
The British monarch, 76, gushed about Camilla’s new documentary, Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, at a reception celebrating the Film and TV Charity on Wednesday, November 13. Charles was joined by Camilla, 77, at the event, where they spoke with many famous faces, including actor Damian Lewis.
According to The Telegraph, Lewis, 53, informed Charles that he had watched Camilla’s documentary, which highlights her work raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual abuse and supporting survivors. “It’s very moving, isn’t it?” Charles replied. “I think BAFTA [British Academy of Film and Television Arts] are interested in it.”
During the reception, Charles also told Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt — who directed and produced the film — that he was “moved to tears” by a preview he saw of it. “I am very proud of it. It reduced me to tears,” he added. (The documentary premiered on ITV1 on Monday, November 11.)
Though Camilla was in attendance at Wednesday’s reception, she did not accompany Charles to the London premiere of Gladiator II that night. The queen has canceled a number of recent public appearances due to an ongoing chest infection.
“I am so sorry I’m not coming tonight. I’d be coughing throughout it,” she reportedly told director Ridley Scott earlier on Wednesday, per The Telegraph, telling other guests that she was “on the mend.”
Charles, meanwhile, sported a classic black tux, white dress shirt and black bow tie to the premiere. He was photographed happily greeting the film’s stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Connie Nielsen, as well as Scott, 86.
Just like his wife, Charles has been dealing with health issues of his own. He was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer after undergoing a prostate procedure earlier this year. He returned to public-facing royal duties in April and has continued to make several appearances since.
Last month, Charles and Camilla traveled to Australia and Samoa before returning to England for this year’s Remembrance Day ceremonies, which Camilla did not participate in. However, Princess Kate Middleton joined Charles, Prince William and other royals to honor U.K. veterans and military personnel.
The Remembrance Day events on Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10, marked some of Kate’s first public appearances since announcing she had completed her chemotherapy treatment in September. (Kate, 42, announced in March that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.)
During a visit to Cape Town, South Africa, earlier this month, William, also 42, told reporters that 2024 has “probably been the hardest year of my life” because of his wife and father’s health issues. “So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.”
He went on to praise his family members, stating: “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done.”
