Maika Monroe to Star in Horror Thriller Brides

Fresh off the success of Longlegs, Maika Monroe (pictured above in the aforementioned movie) is once again on board to star in a movie distributed by Neon. The latest film is called Brides and comes from writer-director Chloe Okuno.

The plot, according to Deadline, will see Monroe play a woman named Sally Bishop, who heads to a remote villa in Italy with her husband after a nervous breakdown. There, they meet the owner, “a mysterious count,” who takes an interest in Sally. The film is also reportedly set in the 1960s.

That description is pretty vague, but I have a feeling that mysterious count is likely supernatural in nature, maybe even vampiric. Indeed, a description of the film in an earlier Deadline article says that the count “gets far more than he anticipated when Sally’s feminist chaos is added to his perfect, violent Eden of vampire brides.” This premise fits in with Okuno’s other work, which Deadline describes as “genre-based material that aims to excite and unsettle.” Those credits include the short titled Slut and an installment in V/H/S/94 called “Storm Drain.”

The film is set to start production in Spring 2025. No news yet on when you’ll get to experience the feminist chaos of Brides in a theater near you. icon-paragraph-end
