Netflix’s Devil May Cry Trailer Is Here To Fight Demons And Blast Nu Metal

It’s less than a month until Netflix releases Devil May Cry, the animated series based on the Capcom videogame (and its associated spinoff media), and the streamer has released a new trailer—one that features a very, uh, era-specific jam. Papa Roach fans, this is your moment?

Questionable music choices aside, the trailer spends a lot of time showing you just how cool—and deadly—demon hunter Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch) is. He does murders with ease! He is unfazed even by having his shirt removed by someone who seems to want to kill him! He’s totally blasé about facing off with a murderous rabbit! Nothing bothers him—until a face from his past walks into his life in the trailer’s final moments.

Series creator and showrunner Adi Shankar told Netflix’s Tudum, “Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period.”

The synopsis offered is brief:

Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.

Devil May Cry also stars the voices of Scout Taylor-Compton (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Hoon Lee (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Chris Coppola (Beowulf). And maybe most exciting of all, Kevin Conroy will appear in a posthumous role as a character named VP Baines.

Devil May Cry arrives on Netflix on April 3rd. icon-paragraph-end
