The band’s back together, and they’re even cuter than ever. Netflix has released a first teaser for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, which includes the entire cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Edgar Wright’s adaptation of said graphic novels.
It’s adorable. It looks like the comics come to life, with bright colors! But … is it really just the same story a third time?
There is little to no plot in the teaser, or in Netflix’s post about the teaser, but it looks like the same story. One can certainly hope that in this new form, the story of Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and their friends and evil exes might get expanded just a little bit. There’s certainly more to delve into on the pages of O’Malley’s books.
But plot questions aside, this looks just right and extremely fun. The animation is courtesy of Science SARU, and the jams come from from Anamanaguchi (who provided music for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game) and Joseph Trapanese. And then, of course, there’s that voice cast, which includes (deep breath):
Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel
Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells
Chris Evans as Lucas Lee
Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim
Brie Larson as Envy Adams
Alison Pill as Kim Pine
Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers
Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram
Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves
Johnny Simmons as Young Neil
Mark Webber as Stephen Stills
Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter
Ellen Wong as Knives Chau
O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark?) are the series’ writers/showrunners/executive producers; Wright is also on board as producer.
Sex Bob-Omb plugs in on November 17th.
