The Librarians: The Next Chapter On Hold “Indefinitely”

The CW has pulled the much-anticipated spinoff series, The Librarians: The Next Chapter, from its fall lineup.

The show was originally set to premiere on October 24 after Superman & Lois, but has been pulled from the schedule. TVLine originally reported the news and Deadline has confirmed that the show is “being held indefinitely.”

The CW has not provided information as to why the show has been shelved (sorry, not sorry). The news is especially surprising given that it has already been in production, and the network released first-look images back in May.

The series comes from Dean Devlin (The Ark, Stargate) and stars Callum McGowan as a Librarian from the past, Jessica Green as the Guardian, Olivia Morris as the Scientist, and Bluey Robinson as the Historian.

Here’s a synopsis of the show, which we’ll hopefully be able to see one day:

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is a spinoff of the original TV series The Librarians, which followed the adventures of the custodians of a magical repository of the world’s most powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts. The new series centers on Vikram (Callum McGowan), a “Librarian” from the past, who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.

While the fate of this spinoff remains uncertain, the good news is that the original The Librarians still exists… though it doesn’t appear to be streaming anywhere (though it is available for digital purchase). icon-paragraph-end
