There was never an official 2025 premiere date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, but it was supposed to show up this year. Not anymore: Variety reports that the show’s premiere has been moved to 2026.

The news came during HBO parent company Warner Bros. “upfront” presentation to advertisers, who got to see a new teaser for the series—one that ended with a title card saying “2026.” According to Variety, “HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys narrowed that down further on stage by saying the show was coming in the ‘winter’ when he cued up the teaser, indicating an early 2026 release.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansel), and takes place roughly in the middle of the 200-year span between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. As HBO puts it:

A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

The series also stars Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, a Dornish puppeteer. Sarah Adina Smith directs three episodes of the series, and Owen Smith the other three.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker; Parker is also the showrunner. In April, Martin wrote on his blog, “I just watched it again last week, the latest cuts. It’s looking good, I think. I love it lots, but I’m not one to judge. Meantime, in London Towne, Ira Parker and his team are huddled together beating out The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg adventure. It is such a joy to see the characters come alive, so vividly. Watching them makes me want to start writing the next novella tomorrow… but of course, I can’t. Too many other things to do.”[end-mark]
