Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are once again facing off against mysterious forces—but this time, there’s more body swapping, more shrieking, and, well, listen, if you find ageist humor super funny, this movie might be for you! Because of course the teen trapped in Curtis’ body immediately yells, “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot!”
Last time it was a Crypt Keeper reference, which may be out of fashion these days. Why do people keep making Jamie Lee Curtis say these lines?
Caught up in the swaperoo with Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) are Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter. This is about as much plot as this brief teaser wants to reveal; most of it is a series of short shots of wacky hijinks involving women in the wrong bodies (ew, coffee, gross!). But you know how this goes: Moms and daughters are forced to walk in the others’ shoes so that they come to accept each other! Warm fuzzies and life lessons abound!
The whole Freaky Friday concept comes from the 1972 Mary Rodgers book. This continuation comes from writer Jordan Weiss (creator of the enjoyable Dollface) and director Nisha Ganatra (whose TV directing credits include Mr. Robot, Better Things, and Transparent).
Freakier Friday is in theaters August 8th. August is not historically a month full of excellent cinematic releases.
